The Istituto di Istruzione Superiore San Giovanni Bosco
The Istituto di Istruzione Superiore San Giovanni Bosco offers vocational and technical education to its students (from 14 to 19 years of age). It operates in different agricultural areas through its two centres.
The agriculture sector was founded in 1951. Nowadays the school has four different sectors in the vocational field: it provides morning and evening courses (for adults) in Agriculture/Environment, Mechanical and Electrical technologies, Tourism, Social Services. Since 2008 we have also had a secondary school for industrial technicians. The Headquarters of the school are in Viadana (a small town, in Northern Italy, about 100 km far from Milan and about 15,000 inhabitants), which is economically very developed: there are both industrial plants (mechanical, chemical, food processing) and large farms. In addition the Institute has two more branches in two other different agricultural areas. Viadana has quickly increased its population over the past 20 years, mainly because of the strong immigration from Southern Italy and non-EU countries. Normally in Viadana the unemployment rate is very low but since 2009 many family men (especially migrants) lost their jobs. Pupils attending our school are accepted without any social or racial discrimination and come from a varied social environment: disabled pupils, socially and economically disadvantaged pupils, pupils having a failure experience in their former school, children of migrant workers with poor knowledge of the Italian language. They are offered the possibility to achieve successful education through individual learning strategies, so that they are able to develop self-confidence, solidarity and respect. The role of our institution, as one of the partners, is to collaborate in carrying out the activities planned together and cooperate to the development of the programmed work with all the other partners. |
